Tree trimming will be underway starting Monday, Sept. 21

FREDERICKSBURG –Tree trimming will begin along Route 630 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County next week in advance of a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) widening project.

Courthouse Road will be widened from two lanes to four lanes west of Interstate 95, between Cedar Lane and Ramoth Church Road/Winding Creek Road.

Utility crews will trim trees and clear vegetation before moving utility lines. Tree trimming will be underway through December 2015.

Most tree trimming work will occur along the road shoulder. Periodic lane closures may be needed and will be announced in advance.

About the Project

Courthouse Road will be widened over a distance of approximately 1.7 miles. A 10-foot shared use path will be built on the north side of Courthouse Road.

A new traffic signal will be installed at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School and Liberty Knolls subdivision. Ramoth Church Road and Winding Creek Road will be realigned to meet at a four-way intersection, which will also have a traffic signal.
The $35.9 million Courthouse Road widening project will be advertised together with a separate interchange project on Courthouse Road in Stafford.
A $149.4 million proposed Interstate 95/Courthouse Road Interchange Relocation project would reconstruct the existing interchange at Exit 140 as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The proposed project would also relocate the intersection of Courthouse Road and Route 1 to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard.
VDOT will advertise these projects together using its design-build contracting method.

VDOT will issue a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) in October 2015, and a Request for Proposals in spring 2016. Construction dates will be available after the project contract is awarded in fall 2016.
