By PIO Bill Kennedy
March 20, 2015

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that March 23 through March 27 is National Work Zone Awareness Week. This year’s theme, provided by the Federal Highway Administration, is “Expect the Unexpected”.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will have additional units patrolling the multiple active “work zones” that impact everyone living and travelling through Stafford County. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will be increasing enforcement, helping to ensure that those men and women who are working on road repair or road development are working in a safe environment.

More than 40,000 people are injured nationwide each year as a result of work zone crashes. Motorists can keep work zones safe by slowing down, not tailgating as well as avoiding distractions such as text messaging or talking on a cell phone.

“Working together all of us can help reduce or eliminate work zone crashes or fatalities,” states Sheriff Charles Jett. “Something as simple just slowing down and paying extra attention in a work zone area can make a real difference.”
