BRIEF TRAFFIC STOPS OVERNIGHT
THIS WEEK ON ROUTE 17

Motorists will be stopped for 5-10 minutes for each closure in Stafford County

FREDERICKSBURG–All traffic on Route 17 in Stafford County will be stopped for intermittent 5-10 minute periods overnight on Feb. 4-6, 2014, so utility workers can lift aerial cables across the travel lanes.

Northbound and southbound travel lanes will remain open for the majority of the evening.

Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each evening, traffic will be stopped several times for up to 10 minutes between McLane Drive and Banks Ford Parkway so workers lift the cables across the road. Motorists may experience minor delays.

Utility providers are relocating utility lines as VDOT and its contractor widen Route 17.

In June 2013, a $48.9 million project began to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The project will be completed by December 1, 2016.

Real-time listings of travel times, work zones, and traffic incidents in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
