DELAYS EXPECTED NEXT WEEK ON BUTLER ROAD Single lane closure for utility line relocation at Falmouth intersection is planned for June 26-June 27 FREDERICKSBURG – Route 218 (Butler Road) in Stafford County will be narrowed to a single travel lane in each direction at the Falmouth intersection on Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27. The eastbound travel lane on Butler Road will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days for the relocation of utility lines. The lane will be closed between Route 1 and Carter Street. Eastbound traffic will be shifted to travel in one of the two westbound lanes on Butler Road. Westbound traffic will be narrowed to a single travel lane. Left turns onto Carter Street from westbound Butler Road will be prohibited during the work zone. To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to use the most convenient alternate route. Delays are expected to be more severe for westbound Butler Road traffic. Utility lines are being moved underground at the intersection of Route 1, Route 17 Business and Route 218 prior to construction starting on the Falmouth Intersection Improvement Project in early 2014. The project will be advertised for construction in November 2013. New turn lanes and through lanes will be built to advance more traffic through the intersection on each signal cycle, reducing motorist delay.
