SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPORTS THE PASSING OF THE ASSISTANT ECC MANAGER

Stafford, Va. It is with a saddened heart and a profound sense of loss that the Stafford County Sheriff's Office announces the passing of the Assistant Manager of the Emergency Communications Division/9-1-1 Center, Nicholas E. "Nick" Stepaniak.

"Nick was a man of great character who was driven by the desire to serve the citizens of Stafford County. Through his bout with cancer over the past 5 years this 31-year-old young man never complained. His optimism through adversity is a testament to his character," states Sheriff Charles Jett.

Nick Stepaniak joined the Stafford County Sheriff's Office in January 2005 as a Communications Officer with the Emergency Communications Center. Nick's expertise as a 9-1-1 dispatcher soon led him to become the Training Officer for the Stafford County Emergency Communications Center. As a training officer, Nick's talent was soon noticed as he became the Virginia and National Training Officer of the Year in 2010 as determined by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International. In January of 2011 Nick was promoted, becoming the Assistant Manager of the Emergency Communications Division, responsible for the day to day operations of the 9-1-1 Center. As in his previous jobs, Nick Stepaniak excelled in that job as well. He will be greatly missed.
