A Stafford jury convicted David George Clark of Baltimore, Maryland on multiple charges stemming from the burglary of a local restaurant that occurred in the fall of 2015.

On September 9, 2015, at approximately 7:30 AM Deputy H.D. Young responded to a reported vandalism at the Hunan House Restaurant located on Plantation Drive. Upon arrival, he found a shattered door with an opening large enough for an adult to enter. He secured the scene, found furniture stained with blood and a large rock inside the restaurant. Deputy Young also observed parts of the broken cash register on the floor. Detective S.M. Danyluk responded to the scene to investigate further and collect evidence. Although the blood stains had dried, Detective Danyluk was able to carefully lift sufficient samples and secured other evidence from the scene. The blood samples were sent to the state lab for DNA analysis.

In late November 2015, the Certificate of Analysis returned from the Department of Forensic Science. It revealed the DNA sample was consistent with that of David George Clark. Mr. Clark had a lengthy criminal history of burglaries and larcenies within the region and numerous similar crimes in Baltimore and Anne Arundel, Maryland. Detective E.L. McCullough learned from Maryland Probation Officials that Mr. Clark had missed his last meeting with his Probation Officer. It was subsequently learned that Mr. Clark was currently imprisoned in Pennsylvania. Detective McCullough drove to Pennsylvania to interview Mr. Clark who advised the detective that he had never been to the Hunan House. Detective McCullough produced a search warrant for Mr. Clark’s DNA and a sample was sent to the state lab for comparison.

In mid-May 2016, the lab returned the results of the analysis reporting there was a 1 in 7.2 billion match. On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, a jury heard Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Kristin Bird present the case. David George Clark was found guilty of Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit a Felony, Grand Larceny, and Vandalism. He received a 17-year sentence and a $5,000 fine.
