By Public Information Officer M.C. MORRIS MONCURE
May 17, 2017

On May 15, 2017, at approximately 7:28 PM, Deputy L.A. Burgess responded to a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of Buckingham Lane. As Deputy Burgess approached the vehicle, he observed two male subjects located within it and could smell the odor of burnt marijuana. The driver advised Deputy Burgess that there was nothing illegal inside the vehicle, but that the two subjects had just smoked some marijuana. Both subjects were asked for identification. Neither could provide identification, and only the passenger could recall his social security number. The driver provided a name and date of birth.

Deputy Lucas requested the passenger to step out of the vehicle, and when asked if he had anything on his person that Deputy Lucas needed to be aware of, the passenger did not respond. When asked for a second time, the passenger admitted to having a gun. The gun was removed from his front pocket. Deputy W.C. Betush also responded to the scene and searched the driver. Two bags of what appeared to be marijuana were recovered in that search, and a smoking device was recovered from the vehicle. The driver had provided law enforcement with the wrong date of birth. Both subjects were wearing masks rolled up on the top of their heads.

The driver was a juvenile, and Juvenile Complaints were filed for possession of marijuana and false identification to law enforcement. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Ishmeal McGriff age 19 of Ford Henry Court in Dumfries, VA. Mr. McGriff was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon. He was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,000 secured bond.
