On April 15, 2017, at approximately 12:12 AM Deputy C.L. Smith observed a silver Kia with a defective brake light traveling on Parkway Blvd. Deputy Smith ran the tag and discovered the registered owner of the Kia, identified as Jason Swanwick, was currently wanted out of Stafford and Loudon Counties. A male subject was driving the vehicle and pulled to a stop on Whitson Ridge Drive. Deputy Smith exited his patrol vehicle, advised the male of the defective brake light, and asked for his driver’s license.

The driver stated he did not have his license or any identification with him. He provided a name and birthdate to Deputy Smith but stated that he didn’t know his social security number. He also stated that the vehicle belonged to his roommate Jason. Deputy Smith expressed disbelieve at the validity of the information provided. The driver appeared very nervous as Deputy Smith continued to receive conflicting statements about the vehicle’s ownership and registration. After additional dialogue, the matter was resolved when the driver admitted his true identity.

Jason Richard Swanwick of Sweetwater Court in Stafford, VA., was charged with Falsely Identifying Self to Law Enforcement, Identity Theft to Avoid Arrest and was served with warrants for Felony Hit and Run, Embezzlement and two additional charges from Loudon County.
